The Price of Excellence Part 1

Every good thing in life comes at a price. To obtain a prize you must pay a price. Nothing good comes easy in life. There is no free lunch any-where. It is the joy of every woman to hold her baby in her hands but every woman must pay the price of having children when they go into the labor room. It is said that no pain no gain, no labor no reward, & no sweat no rest. Women are only rewarded with babies when they go through labor which is hardly a pleasant experience.

Excellence which is the quality of being exceptionally good comes at a price. For the learner, to be excellent is to have outstanding performance in all his subjects. His works are always neat, presentable & impressive to his teachers & instructors. He supplies the right & adequate answers to questions & puzzles. He is thorough in his approach & meticulous in his presentation. This makes him to impress his masters & secure high commendation. Excellence can never be achieved without paying a price.

A learner who desires excellence has a price to pay. There are  seven D's that summarize the price of excellence. They are:

  1. Desire
  2. Designation or  Destination
  3. Decision
  4. Direction
  5. Deligence
  6. Determination
  7. Discipline
Looking at each of the D's one after the other.

Desire

Desire is the foundation for excellence. It is said that where there is a will there is a way. It is a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen. According to Napoleon Hill, " Desire is the starting point of all achievement". Desire is thirsting for something. The first price that you need to pay on the road to excellence is to have a strong desire(thirst) for excellence.

The desire for excellence will motivate you to work for it. Your desire for excellence will act both as a hunger for it & an appetizer that will stimulate you to pay the price for it. To achieve excellence your desire for change must be greater than your desire to remain the same way you are.  According to Dr T.P. Ohia, " The stronger your desire the greater will be your motivation & the greater your motivation the greater the achievement.

Desire is the only thing that will keep you going when fulfillment is delayed. Your skills & talents  coupled with the strong desire & will to be the best will definitely put you on the path of excellence. For excellence to locate you your desire to change must be greater than your desire to remain the same.

Our dreams, visions in life all begin with desires. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small fire makes a small amount of heat. According to Bill Cosby " in order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure ".  Your potential is defined by your desire. A Life without desire is worth nothing.
